TIFFANY ALFONSECA, FIRST FEMALE DOMINICAN-AMERICAN ARTIST REPRESENTED BY OOA GALLERY
Tiffany Alfonseca is a Dominican-American artist known for her vibrant depictions of Afro-Diasporic communities and culture. Her artwork explores themes of race, identity, and everyday life, using bold colors and textured brushstrokes to bring to life narratives that resonate with both personal and collective experiences. Alfonseca’s work celebrates her Afro-Dominican heritage, highlighting the richness and diversity of Black and Brown communities, which are often underrepresented in contemporary art. Through her art, she amplifies marginalized voices and celebrates the beauty and resilience of these communities.
Alfonseca’s creative practice is both celebratory and educational, aiming to combat stereotypes by portraying her subjects in moments of joy, strength, and contemplation. She rejects narrow representations, offering a multi-dimensional view that humanizes Black and Brown people. Her goal is to foster pride and belonging among Afro-Diasporic viewers while educating broader audiences about these cultures. The use of bold, saturated colors and textured compositions adds depth and dynamism to her paintings, making her figures seem alive and tangible, reinforcing the strength and vibrancy of the communities she portrays.
CUBAN SCULPTOR ANDRÉS MONTALVAN IS NOW PART OF THE OOA GALLERY FAMILY
We are proud to announce that Andrés Montalvan, one of the leading sculptors and draftsmen in contemporary Cuban art, is now part of the OOA Gallery family.
Montalvan’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in his Cuban heritage, despite his current residence in France. Raised in a modest neighborhood in Havana, he was influenced by his architect father and early exposure to television programs. He pursued formal art training, which led him to a career as both a teacher and a professional artist. Montalvan's art is distinguished by his constant exploration of new materials and techniques, from wood and metal to resins and oxides. While he does not cater to a specific audience, he draws inspiration from everyday experiences, following his own instinct and vision. His relationship with the art market remains detached; he values critical feedback but prioritizes creating work that holds personal significance, grounded in his lasting connection to Cuba.
MISKA MOHMMED, A SUDANESE FEMALE "DREAMSCAPE" ARTIST REPRESENTED BY OOA GALLERY
Miska Mohmmed stands out as a prominent figure within the artistic realm, her creative prowess rooted in the picturesque landscapes of her Sudanese upbringing, alongside the majestic Nile River. Through her semi-abstract compositions, Miska skillfully intertwines elements of land, water, air, and flora, orchestrating a vibrant tapestry of colors and lines that gracefully traverse the canvas. Her art captures the harmonious coexistence between the dynamic urban lifestyle and the serene tranquility of nature, inviting spectators into a dreamscape where reality seamlessly merges with fantasy.
Aptly described as “a symphony of colors that dance across the canvas,” her landscapes are painted with intuitive emotion. Making memory maps, and inventing as she goes along, Mohmmed creates a pliable world—one that pulsates with exciting possibilities.
