Contemporary African Art Fairs and International Presentations

OOA Gallery regularly participates in international art fairs dedicated to contemporary African and Afro-diasporic art, presenting artists through curated solo and group presentations. These events are key moments in the gallery’s programme, creating visibility for artists and fostering dialogue with collectors, curators and institutions worldwide.

Art fairs have become essential platforms for the international recognition of contemporary African art. Beyond their commercial role, they offer spaces of exchange where artistic practices are discovered, contextualised and placed in conversation with wider cultural and critical debates.

OOA Gallery’s participation in these events reflects its commitment to supporting emerging and established artists across painting, sculpture, mixed media, photography and installation. Each fair presentation is conceived as a focused curatorial encounter, allowing collectors to engage closely with the material, conceptual and cultural dimensions of the works on view.

Among the most influential international platforms is the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, held in cities such as London, New York and Marrakech, which brings together leading galleries and artists from Africa and the diaspora. Art X Lagos has become a major meeting point for contemporary art in West Africa, connecting artists, galleries, collectors and institutions across the continent and beyond.

In Paris, AKAA – Also Known As Africa is a key fair dedicated to contemporary African and diasporic art, while other international events such as Art Madrid, Investec Cape Town Art Fair and Africa Basel offer further opportunities to present artists within a global art market context. The Dak’Art Biennale in Senegal remains one of the continent’s most important long-standing events for contemporary African art.

For OOA Gallery, art fairs are not only moments of presentation. They are opportunities to build long-term relationships with collectors and curators, introduce artists to new audiences, and place contemporary African and Afro-diasporic practices within international conversations.
