A Sustainable Art Exhibition at OOA Gallery.
This summer, OOA Gallery proudly presents Unseen Origins, a compelling duo exhibition featuring artists Patrick Tagoe-Turkson (Ghana) and DOFF (Chad). Running alongside the Sitges Recicl’Art Festival 2025, the show explores themes of sustainability, cultural memory, and transformation through recycled materials.
The Recicl’Art Festival, now in its seventh year, brings together artists and environmental advocates to raise awareness about plastic pollution, especially in marine ecosystems. With a group exhibition hosted at the Miramar Cultural Center in Sitges, the 2025 edition will feature 43 works by 23 international and local artists. Artworks span sculpture, photography, painting, collage, and mixed media, engaging audiences in a powerful conversation about climate change and ecological responsibility.
Among the selected artists, Patrick Tagoe-Turkson and DOFF bring unique yet complementary perspectives on environmental consciousness and creative reuse. Their joint exhibition at OOA Gallery offers visitors a deeper experience into contemporary African art practices rooted in ecological awareness.
Two Voices. One Message
Art as Resistance, Renewal, and Responsibility
Patrick Tagoe-Turkson
Working from Ghana’s coastal city of Takoradi, Patrick transforms discarded flip-flops collected from beaches into vibrant, geometric compositions. These works, often referred to as "Objects of Value," reflect stories of migration, resilience, and cultural heritage. With a Master of Fine Arts from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, he is both an accomplished artist and educator.
Tagoe-Turkson’s creations have been exhibited internationally — from France and Italy to South Korea and Canada — and are part of public collections such as the National Museum of Anthropology (Spain) and the Royal Ontario Museum (Canada). His work bridges artistic excellence with eco-activism and storytelling.
DOFF (Apollinaire Guidimbaye)
A pioneering artist from Chad, reimagines waste as a source of power and meaning. Utilizing burnt tire wires, bullet casings, and industrial materials like paxalu, he constructs bold mixed-media pieces that confront social and environmental injustice.
His art, deeply tied to his Chadian roots, communicates universal struggles and aspirations. As the founder of Knock on Art and creator of Fondasia (a new cultural festival in N’Djamena), DOFF plays a key role in promoting recycled art and mentoring young creatives across Africa.
With exhibitions at Dak’Art Biennale, AKAA Paris, and shows in Washington D.C., Dakar, and Zurich, DOFF is increasingly recognized as a leading voice in contemporary African art.
