BOB-NOSA

OOA Gallery participated in Barcelona Gallery Weekend 2021 with a focused solo presentation by Bob-Nosa, presented as part of the gallery’s ongoing commitment to socially engaged contemporary practices. The presentation introduced a selection of works rooted in protest imagery and political critique, situating the artist’s practice within the wider cultural context of Barcelona.

Bob-Nosa’s paintings draw on a visual language marked by urgency and directness. Figures appear fragmented, burdened, or in motion, often rendered through raw gestures, abrasive textures, and the accumulation of painted and sprayed marks. Symbols, signs, and chromatic contrasts function as tools of disruption, addressing themes of violence, power, injustice, and the lived realities of social oppression.

Rather than pursuing narrative resolution, the works operate as visual acts of resistance. The material surface—thick, uneven, and visibly worked—becomes a site of confrontation, where the body is both represented and strained by the political conditions it inhabits. The presentation emphasised painting as a form of testimony, grounded in immediacy and refusal.

OOA Gallery’s participation in Barcelona Gallery Weekend 2021 reflects its sustained engagement with contemporary African and Afro-diasporic art, foregrounding artistic practices that address social struggle, political agency, and the capacity of painting to function as a critical and protest-driven medium.
