OOA Gallery participated in VOLTA New York 2023, presented in New York, as part of its continued engagement with international art fairs dedicated to emerging and mid-career artistic practices. The presentation reflected the gallery’s curatorial approach, emphasising clarity, visual dialogue, and the articulation of distinct artistic positions within a coherent spatial framework.
The booth brought together a selection of works that explored relationships between figure, space, and material presence. Through painting and mixed media practices, the presentation privileged close looking and visual rhythm, allowing individual works to resonate through subtle formal connections rather than overt thematic statements. Attention to scale, surface, and chromatic balance structured the encounter with the works on view.
Artists presented included OLUWOLE OMOFEMI, MATTHEW EGUAVOEN, MEDERIC TURAY & MOSES ZIBOR
Their practices engage with questions of representation, memory, and the construction of visual narratives, reflecting diverse approaches within contemporary African and Afro-diasporic art. The presentation highlighted how individual artistic languages can coexist within a shared curatorial context while maintaining conceptual autonomy.
OOA Gallery’s participation in VOLTA New York 2023 reaffirmed its commitment to positioning contemporary African and Afro-diasporic art within an international art fair environment, fostering sustained visibility and long-term dialogue beyond the temporal framework of the fair.
