In You Have Freedom Now but You’re Not Using It, Matthew Eguavoen places a young seated figure before a warm, unfinished field of color, turning the studio-like setting into a space of reflection and challenge. The title introduces a tension between possibility and inertia, while the figure’s frontal gaze asks the viewer to confront questions of agency, responsibility and social conditioning. This large-scale acrylic and oil painting on canvas is a compelling work for collectors drawn to portraiture with political resonance and emotional directness.
